Metadata is Data about the data.

If anyone asks - Define Metadata ?
All will answer only one - Metadata is data about data..

Can anyone describe in better way...

Hi Sipra
I would like to jot down something i know about metadata. Someoneplease correct me if i am wrong:

Metadata is data about the data. This means it gives info reg who has posted, at what time, from where and how about the data. Certain know hows about the data has been collected and also details about how is it formatted. That's y it is called as "data about the data". .Hope it is of some help to you  Smiley

Metadata is structured information that describes, explains, locates, or otherwise makes it easier to retrieve, use or manage an information resource. Metadata is often called data about data or information about information.
